 Going into the design process of our home we had a list of needs and wants and Phillip hit the mark on all of them.  I was unsure how working mostly over the internet would go, but it was even easier than we could have expected.  I never dreamed we could design our house and not have to meet in person and have a sit down.  We both work and that was a huge plus not having to coordinate everyone's schedule for a meeting.  With a few emails and a couple phone calls Phillip got down on paper what we had in our minds.  While he did what we wanted he also told us his opinion and we appreciate that.  Thanks again Phillip for your great service.

We have always been a follower of Doug Ryes newsletters thorough Arkansas Electric Co-Op,  so when we contacted Phillip we knew we would get good information.  We just didn't realize how valuable that information would turn out to be. After meeting with Phillip,  we are sold on his experience, and prompt communications via the Internet.  What we thought, before meeting with Phillip, was that we would be meeting, meeting, and meeting again throughout the summer to finalize plans for our home with his energy analysis included..  SO, NOT TRUE. Even on vacation, we were able to communicate any concerns or changes we wanted. My wife and I met Mr. Rye at a Kodiak Steel Homes workshop earlier this year. We were very impressed with his in-depth knowledge of the Kodiak product line. We contracted with him to customize an Augusta 1 Model from Kodiak.

We could not be more pleased with the outcome. Working remotely via email (we live in GA) and phone the process was handled without any difficulties. We could visualize our plan’s progress thru timely updates from Mr. Rye – and he wasn’t satisfied until he had exactly what we wanted.

If you are considering skipping the energy efficiency plans – don’t. The savings are well worth the investment and he helped us incorporate design strategies to more efficiently utilize a geothermal system. We couldn’t be more pleased with the service and end product!

I found out about the Rye Family from my brother.  He watched Doug Rye’s spot about energy saving tips and had installed a Marathon hot water tank. He was happy with the results and when the opportunity came up to talk about energy saving building techniques, he was ready to share what he had learned. 

I went to the Doug Rye web site and found out his son Phillip created custom house plans and also was able to run an energy analysis on the plan.  I told my husband about it and he said to contact Phillip and have him see if he could draw our house plans from a sketch we had created. 

I contacted Phillip and told him what we had in the way of a sketch, what we wanted in the house, and how important energy saving and building “green” was to my husband.  He was most helpful and assured me he could do what we wanted. Phillip emailed us a design agreement and we were ready to commit. 

We mailed him our sketch and within the week, we had our first draft delivered through our email account.  My husband is a civil engineer and able to print off large documents.  He asked if Phillip could format the .pdf file so he could print off plan size documents.  Phillip was very accommodating and had that change done by the next day.  We only had three revisions, probably because we had two civil engineers working together!  It was a painless, no stress experience and we would recommend it to anyone.  We have not met Phillip Rye, but we trust him, respect him, and are impressed with his fast and professional service.


Quality, convenience, and affordability. If you desire a custom home and have at least a rough idea of what you want, Phillip Rye is the way to go. The more developed your initial idea the quicker the process. Neither my wife or I have much computer experience but working with Phillip was easy. He does respond to e-mails within 24 hours(usually at midnight).  The longest we ever waited for a plan change was one week. The home you and Phillip design can truly be as personalized as if you went to an architect but at 10% of the expense.
